Hi all,
I’m having a memory problem with my Compaq Prosignia 320 desktop computer. It has an Intel Celeron 433Mhz microprocessor and its OS is Windows 98se.
One of its two memory boards starting going bad. It had a 64MB board (in slot 1) and a 256MB board (in slot 2) for a total 320MB. Prior to making any changes, Norton Diagnostics indicated that I had a problem with the memory. I pulled the 64MB board, moved the 256MB board to slot 1. When I started up the computer and ran Norton again, it said the memory was good. So I went out and bought another 256MB board and installed it in slot 2 for a total 512MB which my computer’s specs say is the maximum it can handle.
Anyway, to make a long story short, the BIOS and the "check my computer" feature at www.memoryx.net are both recognizing the new memory board. However, Windows is not. Both Norton System Information and the "properties" selection when you right-click on "My Computer" both say that the computer only has 256MHz of memory in it. Windows was recognizing both the 64MB and the 256MB board.
Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this problem? Thanks for your help.
