A Strange thing started happening not long after I installed ME to a freshly formatted hard drive. Every so often the shutdown simply doesn't work. It's as if I haven't even told it to shut down.
I've looked in Shutdown (control alt delete) and it's not telling me anything is trying to close, etc. I end up hitting control alternate delete twice ( to avoid scandisk), it reboots to where I can shut it down normally, and usually works fine for awhile. Any ideas?

I don't have a solution- 98SE does it to me occasionally. I bought a 12.00 keyboard with sleep and wake up keys on it and that works quicker and better.

Anyone ever cure this? I just live with it

Try the update site. I too had the problem with win98se and after i downloaded the "Mapped Drivers Shut Down Patch" and "IDE Hard drive cache...(Sumptin' like that anyways)" the problem hasn't happened since. IF its an upgrade from 98se, and you can't find those two updates for ME, see if you can revert back to 98se temporarily, download those two files from Windows and then reinstall ME. Hope this works.....best of luck!
