A relative of mine recently got a used IBM windows xp computer (it came installed with windows ME), with all of the previous users files still on. I was supposed to get rid of all of that, making it like how it was when it was new, so I deleted the hd partition in my computer, and was in the process of setup for it and Windows ME. (I was going to reinstall Windows XP once it was done).

I was almost done, until another setup screen came up that wasn't working properly.. As seen in the pictures I attached, the menu screen and wizard covers half of the sign up page that I have to fill out to complete the installation. I don't know how to finish this, can anyone help?

How were you going to install XP after installing ME without an XP Disc? If you have an ME disc, type in whatever name you want as the registered owner, and the only thing you have to be concerned about is that you have the Serial Key for ME. But that is just a waste of time, better to just buy a copy of XP from Craigslist or EBay and boot of the XP CD and delete the partition, create a new partition and install XP.

Sorry, I mean I don't have the ME disk that is required for validation when I boot off the XP upgrade cd. I do have a ME serial key sticker on the side of the pc though.

Ahhhhh! Before you upgrade to XP, on that old PC, make sure there are XP drivers for all the hardware in that PC.
If there are, then getting them before you start the project will save you lots of problems later.
If you have a legal key to install ME, then you can acquire the actual CD anyplace you want. It's the key that makes it legal, not the CD. Eh?

I lucked out on a Toshiba laptop that a friend/customer gave me. It was ten years old with ME on it. The CMOS battery had shot craps and in the mean time the HD had gotten corrupted. I went on-line and found all the drivers for that little PC, then after installing a new battery, I reformatted the HD, created a second partition for a storage place, DOS formatted both partitions and reinstalled ME using my own ME install disk, and the original Lic. Key which was on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop.

Later on, I found out I could actually get XP drivers for that little PC, so I used my XP upgrade CD to install XP. It's running nicely today, with XP-Pro-SP3.

With jobs like that, you just need to take it one simple step at a time.
Sometimes if you don't have everything you need, getting a little help from a friend can make the job go a lot easier.

Good Luck,
Shadow :)
