Windows Installer problem

4236 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  atdeul
I cannot install any new programs as I get the following message:

The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\CABINET.DLL is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

I have several good 'paid for' registry and spyware cleaners but these do not correct the problem.

My laptop has a fully registered and Microsoft Verified XP home installation with SP2 and Automatric updates work fine.

The real problem I think is that I cannot find my XP installation CD disk (which it seems is required to correct this problem.)

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Thanks belfasteddie, it seems to have worked OK. I have already updated McAfee SecurityCentre which was one of the more important programs effected. Hopefully all the others will be as successful.

If you don't see me on this thread again then you will know it was a complete success.
