Windows Installer Error

Hi -

Hope I am posting in the correct forum. Please advise if I should post my request for help elsewhere. Within the past 10 days Tetonbob has helped me clean this machine so the following issue SHOULD not be virus related ... i think.

I have found many references to my particular issue on google. I had the best luck in the past though with this forum. I am not techie and you folks seem to communicate at a level I clearly understand. Hence my return to the tried and true.

The Machine:
Manufacturer: Sony Electronics, Inc.
Model: Vaio Computer (Laptop)
Rating: 3.1 W.E.I.
Processor: Intel(2) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2310 @ 1.46GHz
RAM: 2GB
System Type: 32 bit

The problem:
When I reboot I get the following messages:
1.) "Windows Installer Preparing to Install"
2.) "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other blah, blah, blah"
3.) "An installation package PSSWCORE can not be found try using a valid copy of 'PSSWCORE.msi'"

Merely "X ing" through the error messages seems to circumvent the problem but I do not know if it may be interfering with the machine somehow ... other than that it only seems to be an inconvenience ... but what do I know?

From what I have derived on google this error seems to be tied to an HP All-in-One Printer. Well I indeed did at one time have one. So I have deleted the printer from the Printer folder ... but does this action also uninstall the printer drivers????

Thanks again for your help?

run Setup from the HP Photosmart CD again. If that doesn't work, run the Windows Installer Cleanup utility
The site offers 3 different download options.
1. Windows Installer Cleanup Utility 2.5.0.1 (THIS SITE HAS A NEGATIVE WOT RATING)
2 & 3. Softpedia Mirror US and RO exe.

Not sure whether to use RO or US.
First off, do you have an HP Photosmart all in one printer? Do you still have the software CD? if so, just run that.
The Windows Installer Cleanup utility was created by Microsoft. They have stopped support for it and pulled all of their downloads, but it is still a great app to trouble shoot software problems.
As for the Download, since you live in the US, you should use the US download location, if you lived in Europe, you would use the RO download location.
