i have a few external hard drives and every time i try to open them i get 'windows explorer has encountered an error and will close the program' i used to get the data prevention error but turned it off for windows explorer now i get this new one.. i turned my data prevention thing back on for windows but get the same error still... can anyone tell me how to fix this so i can open my hard drives...
i can use a media player to iopen files in the drives, like a movie or a song but i just cant directly open the drive itsself without the error popping up as soon as i opne it.
It sounds to me like explorer.exe has been infected by malware. Tell us what you did right before this started happening (Installing new programs, going to new sites, strange emails...) and do a full scan with your anti-virus.
ill run a full scan but the only thing new ive done lately is download photoshop... and it was from the disk.
been to a few diff sites, and the usual junk and spam in emails, none of which get opened....
Which sites did you go to? Sometimes a website can contain malicious code which can force you to download and run a virus without you noticing it. Also, was the Photoshop disk burned by Adobe or by a friend? If your friend burned it, it might be possible he had a virus and it got onto the disk.
only the external drives, everything else works fine no problem at all... i can open c: drive and do whatever i want, but as soon as i open the external the error shows up, and i have to cnrt alt delete to get it to close
and im not really sure what all sites ive been to theres been a few over a few days... as for the disk it was from adobe. i bought it from the store.
