When I close my laptop for an extended amount of time, upon opening it the computer apparently cannot startup and launches a "startup repair" program, which attempts to correct the problem for 15+ minutes before poppoing up a message that sys it cannot repair the computer automatically.

it gives these errors in the problem details
Problem signature 1 6.1.7600.16385
Problem signature 2 6.1.7600.16385
Problem signature 3 Unknown
Problem signature 4 3
Problem signature 5 AutoFailover
Problem signature 6 1
Problem signature 7 Corrupt File
OSversion 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1
LocaleID 1033

How can I fix this. This only happens when the lid is closed for an extended time - when I'm at work, over night, etc. I can have it closed for 15-20 minutes, maybe more without this issue.

Do you have any programs running when you close the lid does your laptop go on Hibernate when you close the lid?
No, not usually, but I can't verify that for each instance.

I'm not sure what it goes to, but I haven't changed anything since I purchased thislast week. Do I need to check, and if so, how?

First try this

With Windows running

Go to start type in CMD locate CMD.exe right click on CMD.exe then select "Run As Administrator"

At the command prompt type in....

CHKDSK /R

Hit enter type in Y for yes.

This will schedule a check disk for errors during your next restart of your machine which the machine as to be restarted manually.

The check disk didn't show any problems.

The Check disk will not show problems. Try closing your lid and see if it starts up (Open then press the power button)

I can do that, but only for a short period. If I close the lid for 20 minutes or so, it starts right back up without needing to press the power key. Its when I have it closed for an extended period(it most go into a different sleep/hibernate mode) that I have to hit the power button and this problem presents itself.

I took pictures with my phone if that would help.

After the check disk last night, I just closed the lid over night to see what would happen, and this morning it gave me the computer failed to shut down correctly error message and the went back into the startup repair deal after I chose the option to start windows normally.
