I am trying to install windows 98SE and I get error message that says I allready have an OS and that I need the 98 upgrade. I am running windows 95. Am I missing something here because I thought it was suppose to fire right up.
It depends what version of the Win98 SE CD you have. If its the upgrade CD, it will upgrade from Win95, but if its the full version of Win98 SE on CD, then you will need to format your hard drive, and THEN install the OS to the fresh drive.
Try deleting the win.com file in dos mode (make sure you have cd-rom support) then running the setup from the 98 directory on the cd. This should work, but as always, have a recent backup.
I think it's possible to install over your previous version of Windows. Grab a boot disk (make sure you have a CD-ROM driver on the disk.), and run "setup.exe" from your CD-ROM drive.
