Hello I'm new to the forums. I own a gateway nv53a. Running windows 7. The problem I'm having is nothing will load at all. Windows doesn't load and it goes to startup repair and that doesn't load either. I've left the laptop on for hours just to see if it might load at some point but it doesn't. I'm not sure what to do know I need help or any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advanced.

Welcome Jamestone

See if you can boot into Safe Mode (keep tapping F8 while the laptop turns on, you should get a list of options shown, one is to boot into safe mode).

I'm assuming this is caused by software and not a hardware change, you haven't changed anything have you?

Did you gateway nv53a come with any repair discs? Or do you have a Windows 7 disc lying around you could use for repairs?

Probably not...

I believe it is an Acer...to get to your recovery feature on a gateway, hold the ALT key and keep tapping F10 during boot. If you get a list of options, choose the HDD/Hard disk, then again hold ALT and keep tapping F10.

F10 should take you to Windows Recovery. You should be given the option to do a StartUp Repair or to Reinstall Windows. If you choose the later it will restore your computer to factory defaults. It will erase all personal files and programs so backup first.
You can also test the HDD, download the ISO image for Drive Fitness in my signature and burn the image to CD using IMGBurn also in my signature. Boot off of the newly created CD and run the Quick and the Advanced tests on the HDD.

Your HDD has probably failed. Did you try the suggestions in the quote to confirm this?

I've tried everything and when I did the alt f10 I have a blank screen with the cursor at the top left hand side of the screen. I'm still not sure of how to get the HDD test without being able to even get my laptop running I have been posting these messages from my iPhone and i don't have another computer.
