Windows 7 wont connect to workgroup

I asked this question in the Windows 7 forum but no one seems able to help me so i thought i would ask here.

I am trying to connect my desktop and laptop together using a workgroup but both computers will not connect to each other. They both see each other but when i try to connect i get an error and it says windows cannot connect to //laptop.

All of the enable sharing buttons are on like printer and file sharing.

Before i upgraded my desktop to 7 i had vista and i could easily connect between the two pc's but know i cannot. I also recently purchased a wireless n router which is connected to a 2wire home portal (is necessary since i have u-verse). I upgraded windows and connected the router both at around the same time so i never had time to test them out independantly of each other.

I actually did try //ip address last night and to my surprise it actually works. So now I can connect but I have to do it manually I guess since trying to connect through the Icons is still not working. Thanks for the help
