Windows 7 will not connect to workgroup

1611 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Gibson56
I im having a little trouble setting up a workgroup at my home. My desktop is running windows 7 and my laptop is also running windows 7. They both have the same workgroup name and i can also see both the desktop and the laptop through network computers and devices. When I try to connect to the laptop though there is a problem and an error displays saying windows cannot access //laptop

any help would be appreciated

file and printer sharing installed/enabled on both?
both firewalls set to allow file and printer sharing?
Have you enabled file and printer sharing sharing in Network and Sharing Center>Change Advanced Sharing Settings (Look over on the left for this option)?
yea both the desktop and laptop have them enabled.
I dont know if this will help at all but i got a wireless n router recently which then connects to a 2wire homeportal, which is necessary because i have u-verse. I upgraded my desktop to windows 7 around the same time that i hooked up the router. Before i upgraded windows my laptop and desktop would connect to each other just fine. Thought id add that to see if this helps clear stuff up a little.
