Hey guys,

I hope this is in the right section, but might as well get into it (pictures too!). So last night I was out with some friends and left my computer on, only to come home to my computer (Windows 7) fully updated to Windows 10. Naturally I was kinda like "ehhh, might as well test it out" type thing, but after playing around with it for about 15 minutes I didn't like the interface and wanted my old Windows 7 back. So I followed the instructions on Windows 10 by going to settings and clicking recovery or something to go back to Windows 7. It brings up the prompt and what not and gets into by saying I need to restart my computer etc. As it starts up, this screen pops up:

From this I just suspected I would do the "Start Windows Normally" option, but it doesn't work at all. Clicking it just brings up some blue screen, and then it takes me right back to black screen with "Start Windows Normally" and "Launch Startup Repair". Here is the blue screen:

With not much else left, I tried the "Launch Startup Repair" option and let it run its course. Basically at the end of it nothing happens as it cannot fix it and suggests I do a system restore. The problem is all my system restore points do not come up for some reason (I suspect the update to 10 messed it up upon switching back), and I unfortunately do not have my drive backed up or anything. I should mention I'm not the best with PCs, but at this point I was super worried and panicked I lost all my data or something. I decided to call Microsoft for some help, and the short version is 3 hours later (sadly) the technician suggests I wipe my computer and do a clean install. It is important to mention we went into Safe Mode and it boots up with all my files there, but I really don't want to copy everything and do the fresh start as it will take a long time/is very annoying. So I am hoping someone here has a better solution that will be able to fix it.

From my understanding something with the startup isn't right, and I know you can access that stuff using F2 or F12 or something, so I want to know if someone here may have an idea of how to get it to boot up normally and avoid the long daunting alternative of a clean reset. I also took pictures of the report from windows about the system repair if that is of any use:
Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

I posted them all there (not in the right order sorry). But basically in short I updated to Windows 10, didn't like it and reverted to 7 which is now unable to boot up at all in normal mode. Thus if anyone has anymore information or insight in how to fix it without having to remove everything and reinstall windows, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks guys, and keep up the good work!

you need to boot with windows 7 dvd and select repair my pc this will install the missing files, the reboot with out the dvd in windows should load normally.

again if this fails then you will have to install windows 7 most files will be on there like documents photos video's you will only loss the programmes you have installed.

that's why I have two partitions on the hard drive so all other files are safe if windows fails.

Alright at this point I'm desperate and don't care if it is Windows 7 or 10 I have. Anyways my computer came with Windows 7 so I don't have a DVD to reinstall it. Is there a way to trigger this? I would prefer not to do the reinstall. I also tried some thing on cmd with SFC/SCANNOW which didn't work either...

If it is important to note, in Safe Mode I do HAVE WINDOWS 7. I also tried spunkfunk's link, but it did not do anything. I tried going back to Windows 10 by running the set up thing manually, but it gets an error with the boot.wim file and won't go back to 10. I just want my PC to work at this point with either 7 or 10.

Just wanted to bump that I have not made any progress. I tried reinstalling Windows 10 but it won't allow me to do it in safe mode. All the other repair options have also failed, or are simply not possible in safe mode. I tried repairing the files and doing the SFC SCANNOW thing but nothing has worked so far... Hopefully someone knows!

If you are safely backed up, and want to reinstall Windows, you would not do it from Safe Mode, or Normal mode, you would boot off of the install media (eg) DVD or USB Flash drive, choose your Language, then choose Custom Install. In Where to install Windows section, choose Drive Options, and Delete All partitions, and go Next. Windows will automatically create partitions, format them and install Windows during the install. Then you can restore your backup.
