I am using self build PC with windows 7 Professional, SP1. It's always had a few gremlins, mostly to do with the windows installation, but I have increasingly been having issues with it which I am at my technical limits to resolve.

Currently, I have a number of windows updates which simply will not install.

KB2676562
KB2871997
KB28732339
KB2882822

I tried running the Windows Update troubleshooter - without success.
I tried a clean boot, having downloaded all 4 updates directly from Microsoft and installing. I thought that had fixed it, but lo and behold, the same 4 updates show as needing to be installed again.
Windows update readiness tool - just doesn't seem to complete the process. Starts, then stops and does nothing indefinitely.
At some point, and I can't even remember why now, after some digging online, I tried re installing the .NET framework about 5 times.
Again for a reason I can't now remember, I did a complete driver clean up on my Nvidia graphics card.
I created a bootable USB (my DVD drive is temperamental) to try and do an upgrade install. It won't allow me to, only a clean install.
I wanted to try and remove SP1 an re-install, but when I go to "installed updates", absolutely nothing shows.
I've buggered around with SFC iterations in the CMD prompt, without success.

I am loathed to do a clean install, but it is looking increasingly like that might be my only option unless someone can suggest someway to resolve this?

Next time, I'm just buying a PC off the shelf - my abilities just aren't good enough.

Thanks!

Sometimes certain updates are dependant on others being installed. I would first try installing them individually. If you manage to get any to install, repeat the procedure and see if any of the others will then install singularly.

I would not be so concerned. Where you review Windows Updates there is a way to hide certain ones you don't want to do and it may just be that these are not needed by your pc yet Windows keeps trying to install them. There is no reason to reinstall Windows for 4 updates, and who is to say after all that work they still may not be necessary anyway.

It's a desktop (spec below)

I did try installing individually. Usually, either 3 of the or all 4 shows as successful. However, then all 4 pop right back up and need to be installed again.

Intel Core i5 760 @ 2.80GHz; 4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 802MHz; ASUSTeK Computer INC. P7P55D-E; 023MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460; 931GB SAMSUNG HD103SJ ATA Device (SATA)

Have you looked at the installed updates in windows update if they are already there, then you can just hide the updates.

Ah this is most likely the issue with all those corrupt system files. Before we get a fix together lets make sure there are no more corruptions anywhere else.

SFC /SCANNOW

  1. Click on the
button. Inside the search box type in CMD
  2. Right click on CMD => Choose Run as Administrator
  3. Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command SFC /SCANNOW
  4. Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with the rest of the steps.
Download and Run SFCFix

Please download and run SFCFix from >Here<

It will take about 15 minutes to process. Once the scan has completed a notepad file will launch with the results. Please copy and paste the entire contents of the results and post them back into this thread. Please put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt

  1. Click on the
button => Inside the search box copy and paste the following command:
    Code:
    cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  2. Press Enter
  3. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please upload CBS.txt to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or ge.tt

Did you come up with any suggestions? I've made no further progress, so I'm wondering if a clean install may be the only solution.

If reinstalling is an option for you then it would be the best path, this is an unknown error that might uncover even more errors once fixed.
