Hello

I hoping someone can help me with this problem. I'm not particularly technical ! Everytime I try to upload or download from a web site, the following error message pops up and when I click 'Don't send' the site shuts down;

Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 7.0.6000.16827 ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.5781 Offset: 00012afb

I have tried re installing internet explorer but it still happens.

If anyone has any ideas I would be really grateful.Many thanks.

Hi try this

* Go to Start > Run
* Type iexplore -extoff
* Press Enter

and try doing what you were doing again. If everything is ok, it is likely that their is an addon or a piece of spyware stoping internet explorer from running properly, try uninstalling any addons that you may have installed and running a scan with spybot search and destroy (Its free, google it to find a download). This may solve your problem.

However i highly reccomend firefox, as it is less suscepitable to spyware etc.

I haven't tried another browser - I'll give it a go.

I have just installed explorer 8 and it does exactly the same with the same error message.

Many thanks

Browse to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc right click Hosts and open with Notepad. Scroll down to the bottom and Make sure that the only settings under the Example is 127.0.0.1 Local Host. If there are any other settings highlight and delete them.

Hi All
Thanks for your suggestions but the problem is still occuring;

I have installed Int Ex 8 and firefox browser
I have un-installed any add-ons and installed and scanned with spybot
I have checked that the only settingunder the examples is 127.0.0.1 Local Host

Can you think of anything else that may be causing the problem.

Many thanks again for your assistance, its really appreciated

You just maybe missing some Windows Files. Go Start/Run and type CMD in the command prompt type SFC /scannow. Put your XP CD in the System File Checker will start and it will replace any Windows files it needs from your CD.
