I have win98se on desktop. I could not boot win98 on my desktop. I used startup disk to boot. It went to startup with cdrom or without. I chose startup with cdrom. It came up "The diagnostic tools were successfully loaded to drive D" and A: prompt came out. I have 2 separate hard disc drives in the desktop.
Please help urgently. Thanks.

When you boot to a boot floppy or rescue disk often it loads itself as a "Ramdrive" with drive letter D: . While you are still at the A:_> prompt, and can run things from there; you could also pop out that floppy and run the programs (which were on the floppy) straight from RAM so that you could put in additional floppies to copy things to or from the hard drive. This bumps up other drives by one so say your cdrom was D: in windows , it is now E: Since you say you have two seperate hard drives (C: and D: I presume with cdrom normally E:) It is probable that your second hard drive is E: and your cdrom is F:

What specific problem with booting to windows do you have? What error message do you get? Or does it lockup partway through the boot process? Can you boot to safe mode? Please be specific.

Because the tools were loaded to "D" seems to me that it is not recognising your hardrives, check in your BIOS and see if they are recognised

Hello Oshwyn5,

Thanks for your fast reply.

When I tried to boot normally without startup disk, the Acer logo appeared and then the blinking cursor showed at the top lefthand side. It continued to blink without any action. In other words it would not boot.
So I tried the startup disk and I hold down Ctrl key, the win98 startup menu showed. I enter safe mode. It showed "Windows is bypassing your startup files" and A: prompt appear. As I am not a tech guy, can you show me how to boot up win98 from here. Appreciate your kind guidance.

Hello Kodi,

How do I get to BIOS and how to do it?

I checked and found that the CDrom is also faulty
