I am a complete N00b to netwoking so be gentle. LOL!

I am connected to the net via DSL on the machine thats running XP Pro.

My old junker Pentium II machine is what the kids play on. I want to network the two together but I've thus far been unsuccessful.

Here's where we're stuck:

I ran the wizard on the XP machine and made a disk to set up the network on the other machine. The problem is that the Win 98 machine can't seem to read the floppy ( I'm guessing) I'm supposed to insert the floppy into the other machine and open A:\ and then double click "net setup".

I get an "unknown error" that says "illegal operation and will be shut down"
When I click "okay" I get a restrictions error: "the operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." Which BTW is ME! Boy am I in trouble! LOL!

Can anyone help this poor N00b out?

Can you tell us the make/model of the DSL modem? Do you have an Ethernet or USB connection from the modem?

By far the easiest way to do this is with a broadband router, but you need an Ethernet equipped modem to use that method.
