Ok... This prob is for my friend. detailed description of his prob, what we'ev suggested, and his responses... could somebody help us out?
====== Fexel
Hiro or Static im guessing one of you may know how to solve this problem. But anyone else who has a suggestion please reply.
OK here's my problem. Everytime I'm on the web, within 5-10 minutes my computer freezes. The funny thing is, is that it doesn't freeze when I'm playing d2 . does anyone know what my problem may be? Its been doing this ever since I've gotten the computer. I got it almost 2 years ago. It is a compaq presario.
In desperate need of help please reply.

ok, first thing without knowing more of your pc's specs... dl the latest version of ie. here's the link.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/IE60/fnlrtw/ie6/W98NT42KMe/EN-US/ie6setup.exe
my first guess is your ie's corrupted. that would explain why it locks up when you use ie but not d2
if that doesn't work, tell us more about your pc and I'll see what I can dig up for you
======Daffadon
also check you memory you may be near your max, if so that will cause you probs. If you go though and uninstall the things you dont use or things that you dont need. also try to run a defrag that may help.
======Fexel
Arrg it keeps freezing. So here is some info about my computer
processor = AuthenticAMD (AMD-K6(tm) 3D processor
OS = Windows 98 second edition
Ram = 184 MB (128 sd ram added)
Type and model = Compaq pressario bought in 99 or 00 not completely sure
Any suggestions on what i should do?
======Sven
Well, I have an idea. An old girl friend of mine bought a similar computer, and had similar problems. What you might try is disabling (or removing) the original system memory. Go to using only the 128 that you added. Kind of a sucky thought, but I think Compaq shipped a lot of K6 class PCs in that era with really crappy memory.
Good luck. (statics question to those on the board, is this true?)

bad ram stick? icky thought. have you sprinkled magik faeiry dust on it yet? that always fixes mine right up ^_^ lol, seriously, I've posted your prob on some tech forums. lets see what they can come up with
======Fexel
Thank you static that was very kind of you. Thank you sven as well for your suggestion. I think i will try your advice if worse comes to worse. Hehe the thought of taking away memory makes me cringe But seriously thank you sooooo much for the suggestions i really do appreciate it. I figured i would come to you guys since compaq doesn't like to reply to their technical support
Any ideas? I don't think it's the Ram stick, as everything else on his puter runs fine. since he's installed the latest IE, I'm at a loss
