Need help with Win98
I am trying to assist a friend who can't get online and for obvious reasons. I gave her my old computer, Compaq, Win98. For some reason, every time she has a problem, she pulls out the Recovery Disk (can't recall exactly what it is called) and uses that instead of trying to figure out what the problem is. I explained to her that I don't think this is a good idea when there are usually many other options, as in get out the manual and read the thing. Anyway she didn't like the way her screen looked so again, she got the disk inserted, then got to the point where the Product Key is needed but now she insists her Win98 manual is missing and the key number is listed in the manual. I really am at my wit's end with her because those manuals are important, at least to me and she, being a newbie, should have been reading them to learn about the various options rather than running the recovery disk at every little whipstitch. She cannot go any further in the set up because she doesn't have this key number.
I really don't know of any solution for her other than perhaps buying a new OS system cd because I know Win98 is no longer supported. Am I correct in this assumption or would there be a way for her to find out what her Product Key number is?
Thanks,
Meandy
