When I attempt to reinstall windows 95
(After downloading win95b.exe boot disk from the web, formating C:, copying my WPI cdrom drivers to floppy, setting the Config.ini and Autoexec.bat files),
all goes fine, untill i accept the Microsoft license agreement. Then the floppy drive looks for something and a small Black rectangle appears over top of the setup picture. Sometimes the mouse and ctrl+alt+del still work, sometime they dont.

I dont know whats going on, please help me:confused:

Welcome to TSF agent smith...................:D

Try this, Download the Win.98 boot disk from here and put a new floppy disc into your Floppy Drive.

Double click the file you dowloaded and it will create a Win.98 Boot Disk.

Once we have a list of your hardware we'll know which route to take. But this Win.98 boot disk will come in handy then...........:D

to start with you dont have the correct boot disk. you may even have a virus on the boot disk. format when used on a HD is useless. If the virus is on the HD format will not get rid of it.

at this point you need to do a zero fill on the HD followed by fdisk, then format(because win 95 will not load on an unpartitioned, unformatted drive) then load win 95 using THE CORRECT BOOT FLOPPY.

if you dont know how to zero fill drop me an email and I will explain it to you. also you will not find the correct boot floppy on the net. I have them also and they can be emailed.

This is where I was heading only one step at a time.

I know the Win98 startup floppy will give you CD-Rom drivers.

Win95B will not.

So I figured I would have him fdisk and format with the win 95B floppy, Then have him boot to the Win98 startup disk with the CD-Rom drivers on it.

Switch to the CD-Rom letter and have him run setup..............:D

BTW have you looked here they have just about every floppy bootdisk for windows. But you probably didn't even look at the link did you?

I was also waiting to see what brand of hard drive he had to give him a link on where to get the wiping utility from.

My 2 0010's ...

My preferred method for loading windoze:

1.) Partition and format your HD
2.) Sys your HD
3.) Copy the useful DOS files over to the HD into a dir called DOS (like format.com, xcopy, edit.com, deltree, etc.)
4.) Get the right autoexec and config.sys and files in order to be able to use your CD ROM in DOS mode.
5.) Copy the Win CAB files into a DIR on the HD called WINCABS
6.) Reboot with no CD or bootdisk - all from the HD
7.) Run setup or whatever the Windoze setup prog (it varies) from the HD with no further reference to the CD - so that when you need something it will always pull it from the HD.

Hey Speedo, Thanks for the advice but I dont have windows 98.
I have windows 95 B. And dont worry cause i ripped out my hard drive shuvved it in my dads instead of his and booted with one of the net bootdisks i downloaded. It all worked sweet as no hassles. When setup told me to restart i just shutdown and crammed it back into my box, booted and then setup detected everything sweet.
I think maybe the initial problem was probably the lame
LITE-ON WPI cdrom. I musnt have loaded, or pointed to the drivers right.... or something...? I dont have a clue why it would work until right after the license agreement. Conspiracy man...

Thanks alot for ya help anyways.

ps speedo that link is where I got the bootdisk from.

I not only have looked at the sites I have downloaded their boot disk and tried them. I still like mine better.

BTW my boot disk gives you the 3 correct options

1 start win 98se from cd rom

2 start computer with cd rom support (use this for win95)

3 start computer without cd rom support

also has fdisk,format,defrag,xcopy and a $hitpot more.

disk is 1.36 MB

can be emailed, also has self-extracting boot disk maker.

I didnt make the disk, a friend sent it to me and since using it I have NEVER had win 95/98 to fail to load the first time.

However IMHO everyone should use what they feel is best.
