I've heard that MS finally did away with the layer that communicates between HW and OS to make Vista just like Linux, MAC, etc. Also since Vista is so dirastically different in some ways, I have a concern.

So my concern is, when upgrading, will it turn XP into TRUE Vista or a "simulated" version that looks like it, acts like it, but still functions like XP under the covers? I'm confusing myself here so I'm going to try to re-iterate another way... will an upgrade be XP in Vista's clothing or STRAIGHT UP Vista?

Thanks in advance!
