Using a video capture card, I am trying to put some of my old footage on cds. The problem is that a 1 hour video is 68GB! Why is it so big? I can't fit them on any cds. Is it possible to make it smaller without cutting off some of the footage?
What program and settings (bitrate, codec, etc) are you using?
A 1 hour high quality uncompressed video should be about 10gb. You can then compress it using a different codec (like H264) to reduce the size to about 1gb, so you'd be better off putting the finished files on 4.3gb DVDs rather than 700mb CDs.
uncompressed videos tend to be rather large. when i record i usually get about 1.8gb/min.
while your recording there are compressing options that will make the file smaller.
I usually capture RAW data then treat it in programs like Win Movie Maker or Sony Vegas to make it better for playback.
If you have the Data now we can offer you rendering programs to shrink the file size however they are very demanding on your cpu and may take a while to complete.
For the future if you want to record and compress we can provide assistance if you let us know what hardware/software you're using.
