Why did 'UniBlue' crash my Dell D610

1759 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  reventon
I have used UniBlue Power-Suite to protect my Desktop for years with NO system problems...so naturally chose it to protect my newly acquired and refurbished Dell D610...but it ended with dire results.
17,000 files were deleted, including essential booting files that wouldn't allow access past the Windows Login box.
A computer geek sorted it out, but tells me its a fairly common result after installing UniBlue on some Laptops...

All good now...but am running a different Anti-virus program that indicates my system is in Optimum condition....
HOWEVER...when I run the UniBlue PowerSuite out of curiosity...seeing the downloads are on my system now anyway...it identifies 100 odd Registery errors, 9500 file errors and 2 driver errors:rolleyes:
Naturally I don't allow the clean-up...but am still wondering if there is a solution to this apparent anomoly OR if I've just done my dough????:4-dontkno
Any takers:pray:

Registry Errors = not true errors at all. See here for more: http://www.techsupportforum.com/1722857-post2.html

Same probably goes for the file errors.

As for the drivers.. go to START -> Run -> type devmgmt.msc press enter

If there are no warning flags then your drivers are fine.
Thanks for that...re Drivers (no warning flags came up) and Registry errors.

Re: 'same "probably" goes for the file errors'...what of the original 17000 files sited as infected that I did allow to be cleaned by UniBlue powre-suite..following which I could no-longer get past the Login window..ie. a critical problem? Granted, it is suggesting only 9500 infected files now..but won't the very same problem occur if I allow UniBlues clean-up to run..necessitating further Geek intervention at cost?
As stated...the Anti-virus I do allow to defrag & clean files etc, says everything is in great shape!!
Basically I'm just scared to run the UniBlue clean-up again!!
So..are these fears rational...or could there just have been an initial glitch after downloading UniBlue that has now been sorted..and I can confidently run Power-suite again..regardless of the suggestion from a Computer geek that UniBlue and some Laptops just cant get it together sometimes?

Yes, I should have made it more clear in my first post that you should not run UniBlue.

The same problem will most likely occur if you run it again.

The other anti-virus is correct - things are most likely fine on your system.

I would uninstall UniBlue now, just to prevent future trouble.
