OK...here I go

Scenerio:
Locked down XP machine has a admin on a machine that has been locked down and is very limited to the generic use (no right click, No shut down... and more...education enviorment ). Log on as it finds the 2100 that is local....sets it as default. Next using HP Jet admin I added a TCP/IP port and set up a 4100 that was on the network...now I logged off and logg on to test the lockdown account...go to print and the default printer is now the 4100....we want it to be the 2100... no problem just right click and set the 2100 to default...cant right click( locked down)...ok so log off and log back on as the admin...set the printer as default...

ok I logg off, log on as admin....and the 2100 is the default printer (without changing things) ...like I thought I had set it up...Ok remove both put the 4100 in first the add the 2100 telling to set the 2100 as default....logg back on to the locked down account and....yup the 4100 is default...ok...loggon as admin...remove both printers do the 2100 first...install the 4100 and tell it its not default ...looks good...logged on as a locked down account and the 4100 is STILL DEFAULT....

The fix....uninstall both...shut down...reboot....log on as the admin, install the 2100...go to print in the locked down account and WORD complained ....THERE was NO Default printer...it then challenges you for a default printer and the only choice is the 2100...after that i was able to log off ...log on as the admin, add the 4100 and then log on a the locked down account and FINALLY it was right.....

That is how I did it...there has to be an easier way....this is where the registry come in....is there a setting in XP's reg that tell the computer which printer to default to on the machine....or does someone else have a better idea on how I could of resolved this???
