Which RAM to Choose Pls??

Hi TSF Team.

I am shortly to order a new computer to be built for me, but I have a question on which memory (RAM) to select as both seem to be compatible with my mbo and CPU.

My proposed mother board is a Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R, with an Intel CORE 2 DUO E8400 3.00GHz 6MB, 1333FSB, LGA775

My memory choices are:

TWIN2X2048-6400C4 DDR2-800 (XMS2-6400C4) 2GB Kit (2 x 1GB) 2.1v 4-4-4-12-2T (TWIN2X2048-6400C4 2GB Kit (2 x 1GB) 4-4-4-12-2T 240pin DIMM Black)

Or

TWIN2X2048-8500C5D DDR2-1066 (Dominator-8500C5*EPP) 2GB Kit (2 x 1GB) 2.2v 5-5-5-15-2T (TWIN2X2048-8500C5D 2GB Kit (2 x 1GB) 5-5-5-15-2T 240pin DIMM Dominator)

Given there is very little difference in cost (a few $s) - which is the better choice - the 1066 with higher latency or the 800 with lower latencies??? :4-dontkno

Any advice would be very welcome

Hello Mr. Chooks >>>>> good to hear from you again

your memory choices boil down to two things IMHO

your first memory choice will give you excellent and better than the dominator ram if you arent going to overclock

if you want to squeeze your system and you are willing to spend the extra time tweaking, then the dominator ram is worth the time

to recap this reply

at stock voltages and overclocks not exceeding 3.6 ghz you would be better off with PC6400

but if you want to tweak above above 3.6 then the dominator ram is for you

Tks Mr Linderman
I don't know how to overclock, and even if I did - I am such a 'puter klutz - I would almost certainly end up setting fire to the 'puter!!

The only "game" I will be running is MS Flight Simulator (in a vain attempt to keep on top of IFR Flying currency) - otherwise the computer will be used for book keeping, email, word web browsing / research etc - all very boring - I know! :sigh:

So I will go with the 6400C4 DDR2-800

Tks to all the TSF team for the help.
for your interests you have made the best choice by far / however if you EVER have second thoughts give me a PM and I will gladly exchange a matched pair of sticks with you / however I really believe PC6400 4-4-4-12 is in your best interest !
Tks for that - Your's & the TSF team's experienced inputs are priceless.

Can't wait to get the new 'puter ordered and to consign this dreadfully slow old Dell to the wheelie bin
