I have a XP-M 3000+ @ 133x16.5 on a Asrock KS741
1gig of High Density PC3200

My motherboard on Auto detects ram as ddr333 ?
Also i have a stick of 256mb PC2100 (Low Density?)

Would i be better off setting my 1gig stick to DDR400 OR should i combine the 2 and run them at PC2100 speed ?

Thankyou .

your computer system will default all memory to be run at the lowest sticks specs

you would get the best performance by using all Pc3200 although I believe they would default to your boards limit of 333mhz or PC2700

but that should be cheaper than hunting for pc2700 memory sticks

now that everyone is flocking to DDR2 you should be able to find some decent deals on used memory on ebay

you will find PC3200 (also called DDR400) is very popular and readily available
if you buy DDR400 sticks they will simply default and run at PC2700 speeds
which will still be better than what you are doing now, now you are defaulted to PC2100

Probably to use the 1GB PC3200 and lower the timings on it. Then sell the PC2100 stick and buy another one same or very similar to the PC3200 one for dual channel (if your board supports it). Yup your MB limits to PC2700.

I have a dell dimension 9100 and would like to know if any other type of RAM besides pc2-4200 would work in it.
Your system has 4 slots, a max of 4GB is allowed, it runs in Dual Channel too and it allows PC2-3200, PC2-4200 and PC2-5300 DDR2 RAM.
