I had purchased a decent sound card (ASUS Xonar DX). I didn't really notice too much of a difference in sound (i do alot of mixing of music). So i just gave it to a friend when i was helping him upgrade his computer.
I have a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 motherboard and the sound is pretty good from what i can tell. Would it be worth getting a sound card?

There isn't a simple answer. The biggest impact is how it's used. For "mixing" music, if the current chipset supports the bitrates you are trying to use, then you aren't likely to notice any difference with a different chipset.

The biggest differences are seen on the outputs.

If you are happy with sound, leave it be.
