Does the cd drive show in Device Manager?

where has my disc drive gone?
i have a hp pavilion dv2000, i wanted to rip some cds onto my laptop and when i put the first cd in and went to rip in windows media player it said "a cd drive is required to rip cd's to media player". i can't understand how this has happened because i always use the disc drive.
can anybody tell me what to do to fix this or should i just bring it somewhere to be looked at?
