I recently got Linux Mandrake 9 because something ate Windows XP, and it seems to be hurting Linux bad as well. It all started back in XP. I went online (I use NetZero) and IE said it couldn't load NetZero home page. So I log off. I log back in and the same thing happens. I then go to a major corporate site and buy something, then log off. I then put it into sleep mode since I was done at the time. Later, I pull it out of sleep mode to hotsync my Palm and I get no taskbar or desktop icons (but I DID see my desktop background.). The three finger salute don't work so I cut my system off and turn it on again, only to be greeted with a "invalid boot disk" error. So I buy and install Linux. It works awhile (with sound, yeah!
). I reboot several times afterwards. That night, I turn my computer off (hit K, Logout, Turn off computer and let it power down). The next morning, I turn it on and am greeted with the same error--Invalid Boot Disk. I could get to my XP files. I have just tried whacking everything (even XP) and am trying a devoted Linux install. I'll post results of that later. What's going on? A weak MBR?
