Hi all,

Im wondering if anyone can shed some light on a hidden program running
its driving me crazy.
My HDD starts running & my giga bytes go from 296 down to 283
then back up, the task can run for about 3-6 hours.
I have searched and searched and cannot find a program running doing this in task manager.
The program seems to act like its on a defrag but i have turned this off looking for this task.
Its never been this way only since my pc came back from a repair, and driving me mad as my HDD is not the quietest.
The only programs i can find in event view are..TMM what ever that is.
Can anyone shed some light...Gosh i miss XP

Thank you.....dingle

Hi thanks for the replys,

Nay its not a virus scan, its seems to start at 01:00 on a sunday or monday and if its not let to run its course it starts again the next day.

Hi unlockedW
I cant find a processes that is running in task manager just the norm ones there.
The TMM was in event viewer so i need to wait untill todays task to finish so i can see if it is the TMM.

Hi windy,

I have just done screen shots, will have a read on this site to see how i upload them.
A process is has been running the last 4 hours, my HDD is flashing and making the noise and my giga bytes are going from 296 and now down to 285.
It has ran for the last 2 nights, and cant find a process whats running.
Its strange that my giga bytes go up and down, if i shut down my pc while its running
it freezes on shut down screen and when it reboots i get the "system error but has recovered"

If it's a hidden process taking up so much, I would suspect malware.

There is evidence to suggest that this TMM you speak of is in fact malware: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=TMM+malware&btnG=Search&meta=

Take yourself over to the security forum after following these instructions:

http://www.techsupportforum.com/sec...read-before-posting-malware-removal-help.html

If they say your system is clean then we can continue working with you to discover another cause of the problem.

Hi -

Where are the links to the images? Just because you uploaded doesn't mean I have access to them; you have to copy their code into your text, thus allowing me to redirect to them and see them.

Hi dracia,

I have ran many scans, online kaspersky and i use norton ATM & Adaware but shows virus free system-This is just bugging me as it started as soon as came back from repair.
It eats giga bytes but over time replaces them back task has now been running for 6 hours now.
I just want to know what the repair people have set so i can unset.
Thank you for your reply

Ps Defrag is turned off.

Hi drac,

My pc had a new mother board replaced, and had a fresh vista install, it started the day i switched on the PC before i had internet for 2 weeks.
it did not do this before it went in.
My pc has now stopped the HDD task but have lost 11 gigs today, the TMM is still running
but reading into it it looks like its a dual monitor program.

Hi -

This thread is leaning more toward a virus-removal thread, which we (Microsoft gurus) don't need to intertwine with, that's the virus-teams job.

Please, head over to [ HERE ] and refer to [ THIS ] when posting - Thank you.

This really feels like the right thing to do since a "mysterious" program is running.

Do you guys think this should be moved or should we continue to help? I'll PM a Mod.

On your first screen shot there's a task called Consolidator that runs at 1:00 am - but I cannot see the command line for it to tell what process is using it.

Also, since your hard drive is being used, it may be easiest to try this:

Open Task Manager and select the Processes tab.
Click on the button to Show processes for all users
Then click on the View menu item, then on the Select columns menu item.

Select the items named I/O Reads and I/O Other, then click OK to accept this.
Resize the Task Manager window so you can see all of the columns.
Double click on the I/O Reads column header (this'll sort it so the high numbers are at the top).
Wait until the disk usage starts at 1:00 am - then see what's using the most I/O Reads (and maybe I/O Other) at that time. Let us know the image names so we can look them up.
