I need a working solution(mb) to my problem. The asus a7n8x seems to be laden with incompatibility issues with the 9800 pro. On my second rma'd card, and reading other post seem to always lead to asus motherboards. Someone out there has got to have a working 9800 pro(all in wonder) right now, and love it! I need to know what motherboard you are using. I'm tired of asus so don't recommend anything they have. It just needs to be agp mb, and really, don't recommend anything that you havn't dealt with personally. Thanks

I suspect the problem is not Asus mobo's in general but the model you have. The a7n8x has the nVidia chipset and the ATI Radeons are not compatible with them. Whether you choose a different Asus board or use another manufacturer you need a board with either the SiS chipset or the VIA chipset. You can choose to use any mobo you like but make sure it doesn't have the nVidia chipset.

Are you sure it's a VIA chipset? The PC I built for my room mate uses the A7N8X board and it sports an nForce 2 400 series chipset. At first we had it running with an ATi Radeon 9600 Pro made by PowerColor. Then we installed a generic Radeon 9700 card. Worked great! Then we popped in a GeForce 6800 and it still worked. After the PSU failed we went back with the 9700 and it's been running flawlessly since.

I appreciate the fast reply, but my mb actually has the via chipset. Can't say I've ever tried the sis or nvidia chipsets, but thanks for the hint.
According to Asus (and they should know) the A7N8X series of mobo's all have the nVidia chipset (specs are here). If, as you say, the mobo of yours has the VIA chipset then I suspect the model number you quote is incorrect.

Ok, my bad

Your right, Its not a a7n8x, its a A7V8X, thus the n-nvidia, and v-via, sorry. Anyway can you guys recommend a better board than I have with an agp slot?
Thanks
Jeff
