Not sure where to put this question, but will try here.

I have been asked in the past what the make of my computer is and what model. Quite frankly I had not got a clue and still am unsure.

Other people quote their computers with brand names like Dell, HP, Apple, Sony etc. I do not appear to have that simple privilege and am faced with a more gobble-de-**** prospect.

My computer is floor standing with a desktop monitor.

From using Run>dxdaig>OK, I get this :-

Does not sound a very convenient reply to the question.
Do I really answer Make = Gigabyte and model = M61PME-S2P ? There is a small name plate on the front of the cabinet saying "Antec".

Any comments please ?

Sounds like you have a custom built pc . . Antec sells cases, amoung other things.

The Motherboard is a Gigabyte M61PME-S2P.

That should be enough next time you are asked about specs

Thank you Rich, `O man of many hats,

Not to pleased to have a DIY job, but it has worked flawlessly for over 10 years so I cannot grumble - of course I can, my second name is "Grumpy".

Frankly, Custom builds are usually much higher quality the the major brands . . Most of us here build our own for that reason.
Do you know who built yours?
Rich, you are forever saying nice things I like, even about your little Texas Hero who sends you love letters to welcome you back home.

No, I do not know who built it. I bought it second hand from a neighbour who was buying a new PC 10 years or so ago.

FYI: I don't believe it's possible the PC is quite that old. The Geforce 6100 series chipsets weren't released until late 2005 and the first Brisbane core procs (like your 5200+) not until Dec 2006. I believe that particular board is even more recent; more like 2009

To my best guess, it is a long time ago, I bought the computer in 2002. It had Windows 98, but I upgraded to Windows XP after about a year or so later when MS withdrew support from Win98.

I do not know what the PC people did other than the Windows change. They could have done more than I was told of. I just paid up on the understanding that whatever they did was necessary.

I cannot remember having any other significant work done. I had it cleaned and I think they may have fitted a new fan. I know of no Motherboard or other component changes, unless it came with the Windows upgrade.

A new power unit was fitted and a 520 MB chip added to increase the memory to 1 GB.

Beyond that I cannot help. When I said the PC has not given any trouble for 10 years, it is perfectly true. I meant serious operational trouble. I have used it consistently for all that time without fault. Apart from the power unit and undue dirt, it has never let me down once.

The PC is still going perfectly, with no problems I can see. I have never had any infections in all those years other than minor ones that my AV had no problem handling. For as long as I can remember, it has been perfectly clean of any bugs.

Whilst I am a very experienced user and know a great deal indeed about external operations, I know very little about PC internals or how the beast works.

That is all I can say to help your date comments. If components are of later dates than I have stated, then they must have been installed without my knowledge during the few repairs I have mentioned and I just paid the bill.

I have never seen any strange work or components shown on my bills and I am a very meticulous person where money is concerned.

My disc capacity is 76.7 GB and my free space is 55.1 GB so as you see, my storage is very small and shows my pattern of usage. I do not get involved in anything other than simply Internet browsing. As Sherlock would say - Elementary my dear Watson.
