Hey mate,

Can you list your current specs so we can give you some feedback.

Also, I would recommend that you build a new PC as this is much cheaper and you get better components. Since you already have a PSU and Graphics card, then this will work out even better (although the PSU might be a junky one knowing Dell)

Cheers,
Redeye

Not that great of a price, considering there is no discrete video and you need to swap out the power supply. The $500 AMD system less power supply and video would run you about $350 + shipping at Newegg.

Of those from that particular ebay seller, I would be more inclined to look at one of the Phenom II X4 systems with the M4A78LT motherboard.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. These are my system specs:
Inspiron 530
6GB RAM (DDR2)
Motherboard: Dell
Video Card: Radeon HD 6850
Q6600 Quad Core CPU 2.4 Ghz (Not overclockable w/ motherboard)
Power Supply: Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX 450W ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply

I might build my own, I'm just worried about it not working if I miss something. I really just want a custom computer where I'll be able to upgrade anything in the future. I always worry about a new graphics card fitting in the case and I really want to be able to overclock.

Building your own is the way to go.

However, that PC should be good enough for gaming for a while. You might want to consider leaving it a little while before upgrading your PC.

However, I am not too sure about the PSU. I should think a higher PSU would be needed for that kinda rig you have now

Agreed. The VX is a very good supply for what it is. But at only 450 watts output, you are seriously underpowering your rig and risking permanent damage.

Even AMD recommends a minimum 500 watt supply for the HD6800's. For a gaming rig, you really should be into the 600-650 watt (or better) range.

Hmm alright then. I might have to try building that amd one amd getting a new psu. Is the dual phenom good enough for gaming? What's more important, # of ghz or # of cores?

3.2 > 4 GHz doesnt seem much but i can be a big ask with your current OEM RAM.

Yes PSU's can be bigger the more power they put out but not always, If i were you i would go with Intel and not AMD, there is nothing wrong with them but they just seemed to have gotten worce and worce over the past few years, but yeah i see nothing wrong with the AMD you suggested.

The Core i5s & i7s are leading the market right now. They are similar in performance in some area compared to AMD, but even some of the Quad-core i5s (let alone the Quad-core or Hex-core (6) i7s) beat the best offering by AMD overall in comparisons.
