This is the second epic fail with the same model external WD Essential Edition.
The drive will not mount and doesn't show up using Disk Utility or Disk Warrior. I tried it on two machines now: from an Imac Desktop running 10.6.4 to a Mac Book running 10.5.7, also switched out the usb cables.
The drive was never moved from its physical location, it just starts making a clicking noise, as if its desperately trying to start, then dead zone- no sound at all.
I just need to harvest the data and will replace the drive.
But I can't get into it. Should I replace the housing, put it in a new sled, just long enough to mount it. That was the solution last time, but with a different mfr. The previous WD mounted long enough for me to get the files, then totally died.
