Weak Wireless Signal

1913 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  johnwill
I have a Netgear WGR 614 wireless router and a Dell Inspiron 5160 laptop. I find the signal is weak despite usually being only about 15 ft from the router (perhaps because there are two walls with aluminum siding in between). Does anyone know how to boost the signal? I was looking at getting a better antenna for the router, but it is hard to figure out what would work with my setup. Also was thinking of a repeater, but again, hard to understand what would work with the Netgear router.

Well, the aluminum is certainly going to cause a problem! If the laptop is in one place, why not use a directional antenna to beam the signal directly to the laptop? If the antenna in the router is removable, you should be able to find a matching antenna, have you looked on the Netgear site?
Thanks. I did get a directional antenna and it has helped.
You might gain additional signal by repositioning one or both ends a foot or two.
