HI all am novice so please bear with me , just bought a WD 1tb My Passport ext hard drive before I proceed I wanted to know that if I password encrypt will it still play movie files on my tv etc?

once Password has been set is it possible to turn off password and use freely?

any help would be much appreciated.

Once you set a password, you have to type the password in each time you want to access the drive. If you do not have access to a keyboard from your TV then you would not be able to open the drive to play movies. The only reason to encrypt your drive is if you are mobile, and are afraid of it getting in the wrong hands. If you always keep it at home and you are the only user, I wouldn't encrypt it.
