WD My Passport file or directory is Corrupt and Unreadable

I bought a My Passport a month or so ago because I was moving to the states and needed to bring all my stuff with me. I don't have a back up because I was going to sort that out once I got here. It's worked fine the past week but now I'm getting the error message when I try to access it that it's corrupted and unreadable.

I downloaded Recuva and that has basically said that none of the 7000 files within the drive are corrupt except ones previously deleted off of it. I don't have enough memory on my current laptop to recover all the files and don't particularly want to buy a second drive at the moment due to cost.

It has not been dropped or unsafely removed (when I brought it too the states it was wrapped in my backpack so the baggage handlers couldn't have at it).

I am not computer savvy enough to take an accurate guess at the problem but it almost seems like it just forgot how to let me access the files or lost the ability to let me in - if that makes sense.

Anyway can someone suggest how I can regain access to My Passport?

Thank You.

You can try testdisk as in this sticky, http://www.techsupportforum.com/f16...rtition-or-files-in-your-computer-194492.html otherwise recovery is about the only other option. Sounds like a corrupt partition table or corrupt MFT.
I'm running Windows 7 so should I select Y or N for windows Vista... I had never heard of 7 until I got this laptop.
