WD 500gb hdd not recognized

Hello everyone

I have a Sony Vaio RS100 desktop. I am attempting to add a brand new WD Caviar Blue 500GB hdd and keep running into walls.

First, I was able to format the harddrive with windows server 2003. After the inital setup was complete, it needed to reboot. After the reboot, the harddrive cannot be found as the primary master. It still detects the cd drive, and I tested both primary and secondary with the cd drive and it is detected on both.

Second, if on the inital boot up I go to the BIOS, it will detect the hdd as the primary master device. As soon as I exit the setup, however, it will nto find the hdd as the primary master and attempts to boot from disc.


Third, when the harddrive is swapped to a different machine, it is detected just fine.

Really at a loss here for what to try. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
