My daughter has a Dell Inspirion 1520 Laptop. She knocked over a glass of water on it. It would not power on. I took the back doors off and took the keyboad out. I dried it out the best I could with a hair dryer (on cool). Put it back together and it booted up and opended windows. Everyone was happy. It ran for 5 minutes and then shut itself off. It is now totally dead. Any suggestions? Thanks--Mark

I would suggest not to turn it on again. Take the battery out and then turn it upside down, and gently shake the water out, then put it in a plastic bag with dessicant ( and let it dry for several days. at least 2-3. keep it in a warm place,
If you are in warranty then taking it back might be of a solution. I don't think turning it on again might have drained the battery out.........

The general problem with drying it with a hair drier is that it pushes the liquid further into the laptop,so it make look dry but there could still be some water left.So as suggested you need to leave it drying even longer preferably upside down so gravity can do its job bringing it back to the surface.

Another suggestion is try sit at an angle like /\ so water doesn't leak into the screen.
