I am using XP Pro-SP2 (Installed already) We have the Blue and Yellow WARNING... screen that is so common, with disabled Desktop and Screen saver properties tab missing. User let kids on machine and they installed the decoy program. I completed all five steps prior to posting this thread. Ad-Aware Pro 2008 is installed (Ad-Watch disables currently), Windows updates are up-to-date.

Ok. Additonally, please do this:

Right click on the link, Silent Runners and choose Save As...Save it to your Desktop. Double click on 'Silent Runners' to run it. Choose 'No' at the prompt.

If your protection software queries the script, allow it to run. It's not malicious.

It will create a file called 'Startup Programs' (followed by your computer name and current date) on your desktop. Do NOT open it yet. Wait until you get the prompt 'All Done'. Then open up that file and post all the contents here in your next post. If you receive a warning message about scripts, choose to allow it to run.

Here is a usage guide:

Hi comicrebel -

Good job, let's get to work.

I see no AntiVirus application installed. An AntiVirus is a must have for machines connected to the internet today.

Connecting to the Internet without antivirus protection is a "Welcome" doormat for malware. It can take as little as eight seconds to infect an unprotected computer.

There are excellent free AntiVirus applications available today, so there's no reason to be unprotected.

We will address that during the course of this fix. I will tell you when.

===================================================

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode if needed. This allows us to help you in the case that your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

As part of installing the Recovery Console, ComboFix will begin to run. Follow the prompts to install the Recovery Console. Your desktop may disappear. This is normal. It will return.

Once the Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see a message that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:

Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

If you have any questions along the way, STOP and ask them before proceeding.
