Couple things,

1) Do you have the FULL version of whatever OS you plan to install, not an upgrade.

2) Do you have all the drivers for every piece of hardware in your system.

3) Do you know how to Fdisk and Format a drive

If you do then its no problem, boot to dos using a bootdisk, Fdisk the thing, then just put in the XP disk and create a new partition during setup...I guess you could technically even delete the current partition then create a new one all in XP setup, and skip the booting to Dos and Fdisking thing...thats just the way I do it. :)

It sounds like your CD is Windows XP home OEM from Gateway or Dell or Compaq probably so, you pop the CD in and it does everything all by itself..even better for you. :)

You shouldn't have a problem, pop in the cd, boot the computer and follow the prompts, choose format & reparation if and when it gives you an option, it might not if its a mandatory condition.

You can forget everything else I said in my prev. post I didn't know you had an OEM version of XP.

Before you reinstall though I highly suggest backing up any info you don't feel like losing. Such as:

Favorites - Aka Bookmarks
My Documents (including My Pctures, and Sounds)
Emails
Downloaded Files
Buddy Lists
Saved Games

... any other files you've added to the computer yourself. You don't have to worry about anything like programs on CD (like word, excel) only documents you've created in those programs.

Good Luck.
