Wandering cursor

I have an Inspiron 8000 and having problem with the cursor. At times, it starts moving off to left side of screen on its own. It is an intermittent problem and is behaving at the moment. At times it just is a little unstable, other times gets so active its uncontrollable. Re-booting helps sometimes and a de-frag helps, but it always comes back eventually.

Anyone seen this before and can offer a solution?

could it be that you have some dirt or something on the mouse portion on your laptop? Does it still do it with an external mouse?

I had one do that to me on a PC, and I changed the mouse to a new one
