I have a Dell Inspiron 660, with a Dell 2009W flat screen monitor. The OS is 8.1. There are no apparent problems with the computer. I ran the support assist diagnostic-no problem. That test included the monitor. The two websites are an automobile forum and a movie download site.

The automotive forum shows fine at its main page, but clicking to go to another page brings up a red screen on which I can barely read the text, or sometimes a white background with the format different from the usual style.

The movie download site has had its problems with pop ups but now in addition the display is almost like a reduced version - the graphics are somehow missing or distorted. I am sorry I do not know enough to describe these problems better.

I probably could write to the webmaster at each site but it seemed peculiar that both sites are showing up like this at the same time.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi, which browser are you using to view the sites, and have you tried a different browser.
Do the sites use flash or some other graphic.
Thanks for your reply! I have been using IE for the forum site. I just tried opening it with Mozilla, and it worked right.

I have been using Mozilla for the movie site, because that site was giving me fits when I used IE.

Thanks for asking the right question! I'll switch browsers when I want the forum. I'll just put up with Mozilla and the movie site. I appreciate your help.

Adblock can slow it down, I have it on my own pc and find it does that at times, remember to clear your browser cache frequently, I find it helps a little for speed.

Yes, I earlier noticed slower loading using adblock. To tell you the truth, I don't quite understand the blocking procedure-the language they use is not common English, but somewhat tech. based.

And I also must confess that at 74 years of age, things are beginning to slip by me. I used to empty the cache weekly-somehow I forgot all about it, until I stumbled onto that necessary habit while doing the diagnostics I mentioned above.

But thanks for the reminder!

If you want, you can set the browser to automatically clear the cache at the end of each session, when you close the browser.

Also, try uBlock Origin as a faster alternative to AdBlock Plus. It works in Firefox and Chrome, but not IE though. uBlock does the same job as AdBlock Plus and uses the same advertisers lists, but without any lag or slowdown.

If you need any help setting up whichever ad blocker you decide to use, let us know and we can give instructions.

I'm back. Thanks again to all for their suggestions. By way of update, I removed Adblock from Firefox and installed uBlock Origin. First impressions are positive. However, I am still having trouble with Firefox's slowness. It takes my home page about 25 seconds to load on start up. After that the time switching to a new site is about 10 seconds.

Also, with IE, I tried to check out the flash player's performance. I did get an update, but it wasn't easy. And I was confused by the instructions from Adobe re: checking flash player - https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-issues-windows-8.html#main-pars_header_3.
Of course I kept getting the message that flash player is embedded in Win 8. And how to disable Active X was perplexing.

So that's where I am at this point. Thanks again to all!

Here's the latest. I went through the steps outlined here: https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-playe...s-video-or.html#main_Flash_Player_information
and then tried the problematic automobile forum site-Success!!!!
Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions here. This is a great Forum! Next, my Firefox issues. See below.

No, I have not. I saw the term "profile" on Firefox, but I did not understand what that was all about. I will dig into it. Thanks!
Well, I just visited Firefox and it works fine. Why? I don't know. Perhaps working with the flash Player in IE? ??

Anyway, the problem seems solved. Thanks again to all!
