thanx for ur advice but i did try and it didnt work. i get the following msg when i run the xp disk : a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. if this is the first time you've seen this, stop error screen, sestart you computer. if this screen appers again follow these steps: check for viruses, remove any new hdd, or hdd controlers. run chkdsk/f to check for hdd corruption.

any more thoughts. the pc is hp. was told i needed to download drivers for xp for the system but i dont know where to get them as the ASUS website dosent give them out and neither does the hp website, or should i just but my boot through the motherboard and get a new one lol. :sigh::sigh:
