Hi guys,
So i have a vista machine which reboots random times
there is no BSOD or dump files
except for event viewer log has the following errors over and over
Error 12/31/2011 6:53:14 AM EventLog 6008 None The previous system shutdown at 6:51:24 AM on 12/31/2011 was unexpected.
Error 12/31/2011 1:55:24 PM EventLog 6008 None The previous system shutdown at 1:53:34 PM on 12/31/2011 was unexpected.
Error 12/31/2011 9:57:19 PM EventLog 6008 None The previous system shutdown at 9:55:29 PM on 12/31/2011 was unexpected.
Error 1/1/2012 4:59:28 AM EventLog 6008 None The previous system shutdown at 4:57:39 AM on 1/1/2012 was unexpected.
Error 1/1/2012 1:01:38 PM EventLog 6008 None The previous system shutdown at 12:59:49 PM on 1/1/2012 was unexpected.
Error 1/1/2012 9:03:46 PM EventLog 6008 None The previous system shutdown at 9:01:57 PM on 1/1/2012 was unexpected.
Error 1/2/2012 4:05:55 AM EventLog 6008 None The previous system shutdown at 4:04:05 AM on 1/2/2012 was unexpected.
Error 1/2/2012 1:07:36 PM EventLog 6008 None The previous system shutdown at 1:05:46 PM on 1/2/2012 was unexpected.
Error 1/2/2012 9:09:44 PM EventLog 6008 None The previous system shutdown at 9:07:56 PM on 1/2/2012 was unexpected.
Error 1/3/2012 4:11:54 AM EventLog 6008 None The previous system shutdown at 4:10:04 AM on 1/3/2012 was unexpected.

Make sure to set your crash settings so that it will not automatically restart at BSOD. If you see that afterwards it still is restarting or turning off spontaneously, you can bet your bottom dollar you have a hardware issue. This is especially true if you find that there are no events mentioned in the syslog about any bugchecks that occurred, and all you're getting is that 6008 error. This would usually be caused by a PSU or motherboard issue, or motherboard emergency shutdown due to CPU overheating.
