turn off vista in-built burning feature

1) how do i turn off the in-built burning feature in vista altogether? any services etc. to be disabled?

2) can you recommend a good third party burning software OTHER than Nero (which performs superbly on XP but really sucks under vista, because after some time it would not recognize rewritable media - CDs, DVDs - as WR anymore)
the recommended burning software should possibly have as many options as nero does - is there any out yet?
