I don't know where exactly this goes after browsing the categories, but I have contracted a virus from a cocky kid with a virus or a hacking tool or something. Now, I can't identify what this is --- frankly, I can do little more then sign on the computer and get online. Now, I have Windows XP, if that is of any matter.

The virus' 'symptoms' include when I click on most programs on my computer, it shows up a list of things to select from to run it. I've tried the run, MSCONFIG and all that, anti-virus scans, hell, even paint isn't working. To this computer, almost all of this stuff is an unidentified program. Any idea what in the world is wrong here?

Start here and try out the various options given.

You may need to run a High-Jack-This scan and do a post on the HJT Help Board (please make sure you post on that board and not this one as using the wrong board may delay your progress).

If the infected machine is too zonked to get on line you can transfer the programs back and forth on disc.
