well, it might be a virus, but it might be many other things messing up the boot sector...did you try booting up in the safe mode ? and is this the only HD ?....try switching IDE ports. You can also try making your *ROM bootable and booting from the xp cd and do some troubleshooting and maybe try to repair the boot sector...I forget the comand fixboot/mbr or something like that...if you dont have boot disk, look here
