Sorry, it was not .NET framework but Visual C++2015-2022. I tried to install an older version of Virtual Box, the 6.1.46, but it not supports Windows XP. Is there a way i can install this VB version without python? Will it not work without?

 

You already have built in virtual simulation of older OSs in Windows 10.

VirtualBox 7.0 does not ask to install the full version of Python, just the Wrapper used for Linux VM installs. It is very small.
I think You are misunderstanding, In VirtualBox 6.1 you can install XP as a VM, it does not support installing VBBox on an XP Host System.
I believe Corday was speaking of using Compatibility Mode to install any Legacy apps to Windows 10.

 

I was able to install XP in VB but when I ran the extension package it gave lots of errors and not worked right.
About the compatibility, One of the apps not even the setup.exe runs when i want to install it from the CD.

 

Forget the CD and just download VBBox from their web site Oracle VM VirtualBox along with any extension packs you need.

 

That`s the one I downloaded. And what about Python that it asks? Where do i get this? VB installs without it, it says to install later, but really for what I need Python? In the older versions it not asked for it. And what if I uncheck the Python part of the installation, will it give any troubles?

 

I have installed 7.0 and it did not ask for Python. If it works, then you don't need to install it.

I installed VB version 7 and XP vhd file. I can`t make XP access the CD drive, only folders from the host. Manual tells about a guest addition but I can't find where to install this, i not found any "devices" on any menu.

Thank you, that worked like a charm. But here comes another question. The only reason for me using VB are some apps that not run (or install) on windows 7 or 10. I could find substitutes for all but not one. An app that I consider the best offline dictionary ever, you guess, not cheap but well worth the price. Problem is it only installed up to windows XP. And from time to time when I open the app, it asks me to put the installation CD in the drive to checks if i have the "right" to use it.
After windows 7 the smarties found a gold mine: they now have it online, you need to subscribe and pay the rest of your life for once in a while look up some words for synonyms.
I would love to have it installed on windows 10, but I am having errors by installing and then by trying to run it. Looks like it installs incomplete. Any suggestions?

 

You did not enlighten us with the name of the dictionary app you speak of.
You can install most apps in Compatibility Mode in Windows 10 or 11.
Copy the contents of the CD to the HDD. Right Click Setup.exe and choose Properties/Compatibility Tab.
