i dont know if this the right place to post, but whatever.
So im doing some video compression using virtualdub, and its all fine until i try to compress the audio. I want to use the MPEG Layer-3 option for compression but nothing comes up for it, when on my older pc i got a whole bunch of options. Not sure why its like this, i tried downloading codecs and stuff, but on this computer i can only use a few of the audio compression options, which are all high quality, and the file ends up almost the same size or even bigger, all because of the audio data size, the video compresses fine.
Anyway, i just wanna know how i can make the MPEG layer-3 options available if anyone knows

For audio, did you pick full processing mode? If you pick direct stream copy, you won't get a choice for compression (I don't think that's your problem, but I'm just putting it out there to rule out the obvious).
I also know VirtualDub sometimes restricts which audio formats you can encode into (for example if your source is mono, it won't show stereo by default, same limits with sample rates I think). I don't know what the exact restrictions are, but I think if you check the box "Show all formats" everything will be available to you. Not sure it'll work but you can try. Now whether it will upsample or duplicate to stereo from mono I don't know.
Also if you're working with VBR (variable bitrate) audio, you should use NanDub instead of VirtualDub (if you're using VBR audio you'll get a warning when you first open your video file).
