I'm trying to fix a problem with an HP Pavilion a340n desktop for a friend of mine. It quit booting up some time ago. I tried the soft system restore and it loaded to a point then said it couldn't find a couple of required dll's. I tried the system restore disks that came with the pc and it says they are not compatible with this model. I've called HP twice and they have shipped to different sets of restore disks and the all give the same message. The pc was running on XP, but I couldn't reinstall because the software was built in to the restore disks. I have an old version of windows 200o I thought I'd try and install just to see if I could get the pc to boot up. It does, but it doesn't recognize the sound card or the video card. It operates as a standard VGA monitor and no sound. I don't think finding drivers will work because it doesn't even recognize the cards. Can someone please help? HP support is no help.
